Figma Config India: a Dhaka designer's read
Figma called Config India its largest international Config yet. A Dhaka designer reads the announcements, the numbers and the survey, and says what they mean for South Asia.

Figma held its first Config India in October 2026 and called it its largest international conference yet. I live in Dhaka, not Bengaluru, so I read the announcements from the outside. This post is about what they say, what they do not say about Bangladesh, and what a designer in South Asia can do with them. All numbers are Figma's own, as of October 2026.
What did Figma announce at Config India 2026?
Figma announced India-focused investments and two product betas. In its India announcement, Figma says the conference drew over 30,000 registrants, in person and virtually. A separate Figma post says almost 5,000 product builders attended in Bengaluru.
The India-specific items:
- An "India-first" MCP partnership with Sarvam, whose Indus product joins MCP partners such as Claude Code and Cursor.
- The Campus Leaders student programme opens to Indian universities, the first time outside the US and Canada. The first India cohort starts in January 2027, and applications close at 11:59 p.m. IST on 7 November 2026.
- A Hindi version of Figma's website, launched earlier in 2026, and a statement that Figma is continuing to hire in India.
The product news was not India-only. Figma's Config India summary lists code layers and Specs in open beta, rolling out to all plans, plus MCP server improvements.
What do Figma's India numbers show?
They show that India is a large and growing market for Figma, not that designers there are being hired in any particular number. Here is what Figma reports, with its dates:
| Claim | As of |
|---|---|
| India is Figma's second-largest market by daily active users, and one of the fastest growing | 30 June 2026 |
| Friends of Figma has 23 chapters in India and over 33,000 members | 30 June 2026 |
| Over 40% of BSE100 companies are customers | Q2 2026 |
Read these as usage and customer facts. Daily active users counts people opening the tool. It does not tell you how many of them hold design jobs, or what they are paid.
How good is Figma's India survey?
It is useful as a mood check and weak as evidence. Figma says the India findings come from 507 responses from designers, developers and product managers. That is a subset of over 1,800 people surveyed globally between 17 August and 16 September 2026.
Figma reports that 65% of Indian builders are especially excited about how work is changing, against 44% in the US and EMEA. It also reports that 77% of non-designers in India regularly do design work, and that 83% say they are more productive or efficient. The post does not say how the groups were weighted or recruited. Figma sells the tools being asked about, so I would treat the direction as interesting and the exact percentages as soft.
What does it mean for designers in Bangladesh and the rest of South Asia?
Not much directly, yet. In the posts I read, every regional commitment is about India: the Sarvam partnership, the Hindi site, the campus cohort, the hiring statement. I did not find Bangladesh figures, a Bangla interface or a Bangladesh programme.
My own reading, which is an opinion, has three parts.
- The product is moving toward builders. If 77% of non-designers in India already do design work, as Figma's survey says, then design tools are being used by product managers and developers too. I think a designer's edge is judgement. Figma's event recap points the same way: it quotes a teamLab speaker saying AI works well when you already know what to make, and that deciding the intent comes first.
- Regional hiring is a separate question. Figma hiring in India says nothing about Dhaka employers. Watch job posts from local agencies and remote teams instead of conference news.
- Language support is the signal to watch. A Hindi site and an India-first MCP partner show where Figma is spending effort. If you work in Bangla, ask for it in Figma's feedback channels and keep a record of what breaks.
What can I use right now without being in India?
The product betas, because Figma says code layers and Specs are rolling out to all plans. Rollout is gradual, so you may not see them yet. Code layers use AI credits. Per Figma's announcement, creating and editing in them was free on paid plans through 4 November 2026, so check your plan for what applies now. I wrote about the other beta in Figma Specs and why markdown is now a design file.
What I would do this month, from Dhaka:
- Try one real task in code layers or Specs, and note where it fails and what it costs in credits.
- Build a small public sample of your own taste and decisions. The Config India speakers kept returning to taste, brand and intent. In my view those are the parts a prompt cannot give you.
- Follow Figma's regional posts, but check the date and the place before you plan around them.
I am a product designer based in Dhaka, and you can read more on my about page.
FAQ
When and where was Config India 2026?
Figma's India announcement is dated 15 October 2026. Another Figma post says the first-ever Config India took place in Bengaluru earlier that month.
Is Figma hiring in Bangladesh?
I could not find a statement about Bangladesh in the posts I read. Figma says it is continuing to hire in India. Check Figma's careers page for current roles.
Is the Campus Leaders programme open to students in Bangladesh?
Figma describes the expansion as covering Indian universities. I found no mention of Bangladesh. Read the programme page before applying.
Are the survey percentages reliable?
They are a vendor's own survey of 507 India respondents, and the post gives no weighting details. Use them as a signal, not as a statistic to quote in a pitch.
